“Madame X was a fun and inspiring instructor, and I appreciated the hands on experience and the history component.”

“It was interactive and organized. The kids' packets and the presentation was impressive. The attendees were a part of something unique and special. I give it a thumbs up!!! I liked that the workshop was small, so that all participants could ask questions and had an opportunity for hands on learning.”

“It is not a typical kids workshop. It offers the participants history, a sense of how this is relevant to them. They learn skills that are not being taught or promoted predominantly within their family, friend and educational circles.”

"This academy is unique and it is evident that it is created, curated and executed with a lot of thought and heart. It gives these girls another page of history and informs them on how this experiential workshop is relevant to them as young African American females. I know that my child will continue with this academy and she has loved her experiences thus far. Also, unlike school, after her academy workshops, she is excited to tell me about it and demonstrates what she has learned."

“Well thought out with great mix of community building, education, and hands on activities.”

“The "Oh, Sew Beautiful" experience was my daughter's first time being introduced to the Madame X Academy. It will not be her last! “Madame X's Academy is practical, hands-on education. My daughter can see comparisons to the outside world, and how to use the skills of ingenuity to solve outside problems.

“The venue was beautiful! It was warm and welcoming. Not overly saturated. It was an environment that was set up for comfort and conducive for their tasks. This was a carefully curated environment for children. The materials were of high quality. The girls were encouraged to think outside the box, outside their comfort zones, and explore new things in a safe non-judgmental space. They collaborated and assisted each other with their designs. Her staff was professional and just as engaged with the kids. In the end, the children were very proud of the art they created, and, rightly so. They also learned that art has an aesthetic quality, but also a functional one. This experience served as an excellent social opportunity for girls to talk, laugh, and make new friends.”

“This program is sorely needed. A Black woman-led program that encourages black girls to come together in a positive space outside the school environment with a Black woman supporting, encouraging, and guiding their journey. There are no "rules and consequences". They don't have to have all the answers. Madame X’s classes are an unparalleled and authentically Black experience. It was well researched, and somehow in that short amount of time, came full circle (Being able to talk to a celebrity fashion stylist was AMAZING!!); and again, applicable to the "real world" learning our children need. This program confirmed what your daughters and mine have inside of them, and what we knew they possessed. They are capable, clever, resourceful, and talented people that will have a huge impact on the world. Thank you Madame X for pushing my daughter's self-confidence to emerge. She knows that she can "do things". She has an idea, and a vision and she controls the design and the outcome. Madame X guided her from the beginning until the final stages, as it came to fruition. She supported them through this process with honesty, kindness, support, and laughter. Thank you Madame X for this wonderful program!”
